Thankfully, the fair gods have smiled on us for 2026. The major regional events are playing nicely together with zero overlap, meaning we're primed for banner attendance, better breathing room, and a whole lot more fried dough and apple crisp.

If you are mapping out your fall social calendar from the shores of Sebago to the western foothills, here are the three essential fairs you need on your radar — complete with dates and what makes each one a must-visit.

1. Oxford County Fair (Oxford, ME)

Just a short drive north of the Sebago Lakes region, the Oxford County Fair acts as the ultimate curtain-raiser for Maine's peak agricultural fair season. It's got all the classic, down-home charm you could want without the overwhelming crowds of the massive week-long spectacles.

Why Go: Oxford is famous for its authentic community atmosphere. It's a stellar spot to check out local livestock shows, tractor pulls, a fiery demolition derby, and classic exhibition halls packed with homegrown vegetables and crafts. It gives you that crisp, September-air feeling and gets your fair legs warmed up for what's ahead.

2. Cumberland County Fair (Cumberland, ME)

Dates: September 27 – October 3, 2026 (harness racing on October 4)
The Vibe: The Mid-Season Powerhouse

As September winds down, the Cumberland County Fair takes center stage just southeast of our region. Cumberland bridges the gap between late-summer warmth and full-blown autumn, offering a massive footprint that still manages to feel deeply rooted in community agriculture.

Why Go: Cumberland is where you go when you want scale. The livestock exhibits are immense, the pull events draw huge crowds, and the midway is buzzing from morning to night. It's a phenomenal place to spend a whole Saturday wandering the grounds, catching up with neighbors you haven't seen all summer, and diving headfirst into the food tents.

3. Fryeburg Fair (Fryeburg, ME)

Dates: October 4 – October 11, 2026
The Vibe: Maine's Grand Finale (and Personal Favorite)

Running for a full eight days right in western Maine's backyard, the Fryeburg Fair is an absolute institution — and easily one of my personal favorites. Because it cleanly follows the Cumberland County Fair this year rather than overlapping, local attendees can actually experience the best of both worlds without having to choose where to spend their weekend.

Why Go: You always learn something new every time you go to Fryeburg. One year it's a masterclass in forestry exhibits; another, it's standing by the arena watching the ox pull, absolutely mind-blown that a team of working animals can shift weights that seem completely impossible.

Add in the Woodsmen's Field Days, endless rows of vendors, and the mandatory hunt for a piping-hot, perfectly spiced apple crisp, and it's a sensory overload in the best possible way. This is where you go to get lost for hours, see new faces from all over New England, and soak in peak autumn.
